The Beautiful Kotka Archipelago
saaristo-puu

Kotka is a true city of the sea. It has grown around sawmills and the harbor. Lumber and paper have been exported from the port of Kotka for over 150 years. Kotka also has Maretarium - an aquarium focused on Finnish species - and the 2008 opened Vellamo Maritime Centre, which includes for example the Maritime Museum of Finland.

Kotka is about 1,5 hour drive away from Helsinki, and is located on the mouth of the main branch of river Kymi.
Kotka has an archipelago of over 400 islands, one of which is Kaunissaari of Pyhtää - also called The Pearl of the Gulf of Finland - our trip's main target.

We start our journey from Sapokka in Kotka. 15 km crossing to Kaunissaari takes about an hour. We arrive to the idyllic and well sheltered marina, on the south tip of the island. It's a great spot to grab a little snack and admire the beautiful seascape opening south or follow the hustle-free life around the village. In Kaunissaari we visit the old fisher village and the island museum.

We return to our home port at Sapokka or to nearby seafood restaurant Meriniemi where you can enjoy delicious and always fresh seafood

We recommend warm outdoor clothing and shoes suitable for the weather. Onboard we have floatation suits or jackets, rubber boots for everyone.
