Vimpasaari is located about 10 km east of Hamina city centre, and is accessible by car. Rakinkotka Island is situated straight southward from Vimpasaari about 15 km from Hamina about 7 km from Vimpasaari.
Transport to Rakinkotka is arranged by boats or bigger vessels depending on the weather, safety being always our main concern. We also have our own hovercraft in use. Rakinkotka also has a landing platform for helicopters. Main building of Vimpasaari includes a patio sunroom for dining and meetings.
Rakinkotka Island has an area of about 60 acres and is in our company's exclusive use. On the island we've built a traditional fisher village which is modified for use of fishing and business travel. Some of the buildings are from 18th century and added new buildings are built using traditional wood construction principles. Building material is mainly heat treated timber (thermo wood). We are the biggest private user of this environmentally friendly building material in Finland.
Rakinkotka includes for example: conference rooms for 30 persons, seaside sauna for 10 persons, a 12 person rock sauna which works in the same way as a traditional Finnish smoke sauna, traditional "raattilava" (a fascinating barbeque hut perfect for evening entertainment), a bird watching tower and several lean-to shelters. Rakinkotka can offer accommodation for over 40 people. Nature on the island is exceptionally diverse and beautiful. Sheep graze on the island in the summers. In the spring and fall time we can enjoy huge flocks of arctic birds migrating and spot many different bird species living on the Rakinkotka Island.
Fishing is an activity for all seasons on the waters surrounding Rakinkotka. We have equipment for net fishing, long line fishing for salmon or eel, fish-trap fishing or traditional angling using jigs or other lures. The Gulf of Finland has a diverse population of fish. Depending on the season and the weather we have caught salmon, trout, whitefish, burbot, perch and zander, bream, eel, flatfish and for example herring (which is called "haili" here in Kymenlaakso).
We've also built a nature trail, an activity centre called "Elmolandia", and a semi-serious forest golf course on Rakinkotka. Island has a historical 17th century rock quarry, from which granite was exported to St. Petersburg much like from the famous Pyterlahti quarry. In the winter the activities are various. We can do icefishing or under-ice net fishing. We can go trekking with snowshoes, drive snowmobiles, ATVs or the hovercraft and for example play ice golf. Even just enjoying pristine nature in the winter or spotting seals can be an unforgettable experience as such. During this year we've had altogether about 1 500 guests from 20 different countries.
