You can try true fisherman's life on the Rakinkotka Island south of Hamina. Vimpa Islands offers you a wholesome fishing experience.
We start by toasting the sea with a welcome drink called "Seitan kyynel" or "the Tear of Seita". We equip ourselves with floatation suits and rubber boots, choose the best tackle for the day and head to waters filled with fish. At our fishing spots you can choose between spin rod angling, long line or net fishing or use the traditional hook-line-sinker method if you like, or whatever brings the best catch. Any fish caught is then afterwards prepared at the Rakinkotka fisher's dock.
After fishing we enjoy camp fire coffee and salmon sandwiches while the seashore sauna is heated. You can also always choose the unique "rock smoke sauna". In between the heat of the sauna it's refreshing to take a swim in the sea.
For supper we have smoked reindeer soup and smoked or grilled salmon with tartar sauce. Of course meal is accompanied with lots of seafood side dishes and ice cold drinks. We return to mainland during evening hours.
As time files and return to normal week routines sounds no fun at all, you always have the possibility to spend the night and enjoy tasty breakfast at Rakinkotka fisher village.
In addition to fishing we offer other activities such as test-driving a hovercraft and relaxation at the Elmolandia activity centre.
